Aiko Studio – Our story

When her first baby was born, Brussels-based designer Gioia Seghers had to think about warmer clothes for the upcoming winter months. Instead of running down to the stores to purchase new items, she decided to use her old knitwear pieces to make new sweaters for her son, sticking to simple, geometric shapes, and working without any patterns.

Six years ago during the spring season, I traveled

Six years ago during the spring season, I traveled to Japan while pregnant with my first child. That trip marked the beginning of AIKO, and I love reflecting on the journey of this project as I started by repurposing exclusively denim pieces for babies and kids.

With the birth of my second child, my creative process evolved, and I began repurposing knits, using only 100% natural fibers like wool and cashmere for adults. This journey has brought me immense joy.

Today, as I enter the final month of my third pregnancy, I cherish this unique journey and the experiences it continues to bring me.

The lengthy design process, with its numerous steps, makes each one truly unique.
